The India Edit - Creator and curator

For our latest tastemaker feature, we are so excited to chat with India Cardona, the creative behind ‘The India Edit’.

India is known for her tonal photography and curatorial eye which beautifully translates into her home and personal style. Even her wedding became an internet sensation for its romantic setting and incredible attention to detail.

A true art lover, India has been a long-standing supporter of PE attending our artist workshops, events, and exhibitions since 2021. So it was a no-brainer to invite her to talk to us about her creative ventures, the art that fills her walls, and her tips for a perfect wedding.

You wear many hats as a creator and curator - how did you get into it, and what do you love about what you do?

I got into this space very organically over many years, just sharing recommendations from restaurants to hotels to fashion, first on a blog and then to Instagram, which gradually grew until it was possible for me to make it my full-time job. It’s now evolved to include a weekly newsletter, EDITED, photography work and soon I’m going to be offering event styling consultations through a new venture, The Mood.

I love the (somewhat) freedom that comes with being my own boss - to have the liberty to travel, be more in control of my calendar and have the space to evolve in any direction I choose. It’s exciting not to know what opportunities might present themselves tomorrow.

Where do you get style inspiration?

I am always saving outfits from other creators on Instagram - there’s so much inspo out there! Some of my favourites are @monikh, @rachelle.rowlings, and @jen_wonders.

How do you select and curate the art and objects in your home?

I love buying from small makers and artists I find on Instagram or through friends. As their work is typically more affordable, if I see something I love, I’ll often just buy it as I really feel that these pieces enrich my home. I find that artists release their work in limited drops so I’m constantly setting alarms on my phone so I don’t miss out. Recently I’ve bought from Assieds Toi, Ulysses Sauvage, and Leo Costelloe.

If you could have any artwork in the world, which would it be?

I recently saw an incredible Tracey Emin painting in Margate, which I’d never tire of looking at. Failing that, I love Studio Lenca, Heath Wae, and Joe Henry Baker’s work.

 THE WEDDING QUICKFIRE

India was on everyone’s screens when her Cotswolds wedding was featured in British Vogue last summer, showcasing the same attention to detail and design aesthetic in her work as in her special day. Here she shares her tips for a beautifully curated wedding and picks her favourite PE artworks she would give as wedding gifts.

Favourite song to get people dancing at a wedding? Murder On The Dancefloor - we had it at our wedding long before the Saltburn resurgence but now it’s even more of a floor filler.

A tip to fully enjoy your special day? Let go, have fun, and be present. I’d also suggest doing things you know you’ll enjoy - for example, I did a speech, which I loved doing, but if that was going to cause me to worry all day in the lead up then I don’t think it’s worth doing! I think if you are having the best time, your guests will too.

Best wedding gift? (to give or receive) Art or music! We love to give a piece of art, and it feels so good to see a special piece that you’ve chosen hanging in a loved one’s home. If you can’t find something quite right in the art realm, then as a couple that love music a Sonos really is the gift that keeps on giving. We were lucky to receive both and we appreciate them daily!

A tip for a unique wedding table? I loved using seasonal fruit and vegetables throughout my tablescapes in addition to flowers, to add colour and a feeling of abundance to the table. This is also more cost-effective than flowers!

It’s also quite fun to have something that guests discover during the meal, for example, we put little positive mantra cards underneath each dinner plate. It was a good conversation starter and memento of the day.
